Simple Foods Done Exceptionally Well.

About URBAN Comfort Restaurant & Brewery

If you’re anything like us certain dishes or foods trigger memories. Fried chicken remind you of grandma’s, peach cobbler reminds you of summers growing up and so on and so on and so on. There is a connection between your memories, mainly your younger years and certain ‘comfort’ foods. Our goal is to bring you back to those years and allow you to not only share a meal with us, but share a memory. We’re passionate about our craft and that’s why we painstakingly make everything from scratch and make it fresh. That’s also why we have an open kitchen ‐ we want you to be able to see how everything is prepared and cooked. To put it simply, our goal is to make simple foods exceptionally well.

Gas Station Before – Brewpub After

At one time this property housed a gas station that was one of many along ‘Automotive Alley’. Central Avenue west of downtown and Historic Kenwood namely were where the working population of the city worked and lived. Independent stores lined the avenue and a large portion of them were automotive garages and stations. As time has gone on and the area fallen and risen in prosperity a transformation has taken place. Once again Historic Kenwood is a place where the working population lives and Central Avenue is lined with independent businesses. The difference is that Automotive Alley is becoming Restaurant Row. By the beginning of 2015 seven gas stations have been converted to restaurants along Central Ave and we’re very proud to be a part of this repurposing.

What’s New, What’s Old

Basically, the only thing that remains of the old gas station are the exterior walls. Everything else has been modified or replaced to modernize the building and make it more efficient. When possible we’ve tried to maintain the 50’s era architecture or replicate it (windows above doors, exterior concrete awning) while mixing in more modern touches such as sky lights and glass garage doors.

Keeping it Neighborly

We’re very proud to be located in the Grand Central District which runs from 16th St to 31st St in between 1st Ave S and 1st Ave N. And while we like to keep it local, we prefer to keep it neighborly which is why we chose an architectural firm, general contractor, advertising firm and landscaper that were all in the district. Providing a space where the local community can gather is extremely important to us because we don’t want to just be in the community, but a part of it.

From bread to bacon, it's all made from scratch. Urban (insert name of location) is a brand born in St Pete and has gained recognition from critics and customers alike. It's an exciting time to be a part of the Urban family because of the opportunity; we've opened five concepts in four years and we plan to keep growing!
